Hi. I'm Claire and I am an IVF mummy. Like so many people I thought I had all the time in the world to have children and never ever thought that my husband and I would have to opt for scientific intervention to have a baby, but, like so many others we did. And like so many others we tried and failed a few times before it worked for us.
It was only following the birth of our daughter that I really reflected on our journey and the emotional turmoil it created for us both. What struck me most was the fact that as we went through all of this we still got up and went to work every day, yet work wasn't ever really there for 'us'. It opened my eyes to a whole new world. Professionally, I am an HR manager and have spent countless hours over the past 20+ years supporting employees through some exceptionally sad and challenging life events with a whole host of policies and support networks to guide me to do this yet there was nothing for me or my husband when we needed it.
Fast forward a year or so and I have talked to tonnes of people, some of which have faced dismissal for time they have taken off work for fertility treatment, and the worst thing is these negative experiences are not uncommon. I want to change this. I am looking to influence organisations to sit up and recognise infertility as a valid reason to support their employees and to educate them with the world that I, and so many others have found most unwelcoming in a time when kindness is paramount.
