Anthony Rutherford

Tony Rutherford is a Consultant in Reproductive Medicine and Gynaecological Surgery. He trained at Hammersmith Hospital, London 1985-1988, under the guidance of Professor Lord Robert Winston.

A former Chair of The British Fertility Society, he is a member of the NICE Evidence Update Committee for Fertility and The International Advisory Committee of The American Society of Reproductive Medicine. He has been clinical Advisor to the National Infertility Awareness Campaign since 2005 and he also sits on the Editorial Board of Human Fertility. He is Chair of The British Fertility Society.

Mr. Rutherford has played a significant role in the development of UK fertility services and new clinical strategies in Reproductive Medicine. He was one of the first to introduce vaginal ultrasound and GnRH agonists into routine clinical practice in the UK and has been Clinical Lead in the development of pathways and guidelines including the Department of Health's Map of Medicine.

In 1991 he established the Reproductive Medicine Unit at Leeds General Infirmary, and in 2010 led the formation of the Leeds Centre for Reproductive Medicine. He was a founder member of The British Society of Genealogical Endoscopy, promoting the use of minimal access surgery in reproductive medicine.

Mr. Rutherford has published over 94 peer-reviewed articles, papers and book chapters, as well as editing a major text on molecular biology in Reproductive Medicine. He has lectured widely both nationally and internationally.
